Accelerating Our Mission: Tegria Acquires Cumberland

By Anders Brown, Former Managing Director, Tegria

I’m thrilled to announce today that Tegria has finalized the acquisition of Cumberland, one of the leading consulting and technology services companies in the healthcare industry today. This acquisition complements many parts of Tegria and is a key component of our ongoing expansion. And it also directly supports our mission to improve the health of our communities and transform the business of healthcare. As such, I want to provide some perspective on the background and context for why Cumberland is such a great fit for us.

As a reminder, Tegria was launched by Providence in October 2020 to extend its vision of Health for a Better World by bringing great ideas, technologies, and people together into a single company – Tegria – to serve the healthcare industry. It’s a lofty vision, and it aligns with the missions and aspirations of our customers across the United States and Canada. We’re inspired by both the opportunity and the responsibility to turn that vision into action – especially now that healthcare leaders are managing the COVID-19 crisis and their organizations’ post-pandemic futures.

As we look at the challenges ahead, we don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” solutions. We see power in the combinations of skills, backgrounds, and ideas. It’s why we have assembled a broad set of service offerings spanning revenue cycle management, EHR expertise, analytics, managed services, system integration, cloud and hosting infrastructure, and much more. What makes us different is our “better together” ethic we bring to customers. We take a pragmatic view of the challenges our customers face and bring the best we have to offer to assemble solutions to those challenges.

And that is why bringing Cumberland into the Tegria family makes so much sense for us. They’ve earned a stellar reputation across both the payer and provider ecosystems and have a growing presence in retail healthcare. They have complementary skill sets in core claims and benefit administration systems, and their depth in leading enterprise systems pairs with our own expertise in Epic and MEDITECH. They have end-to-end offerings spanning consulting and advisory services, deep technology offerings, and a growing set of managed services offerings. Like Tegria, they are focused on customer outcomes and willing to do what it takes to make their customers successful.

The most important thing, however, is they have a shared sense of purpose and mission that is aligned with Tegria. Culture matters – it matters a lot – when building a company that has the mission-driven growth aspirations of Tegria. We believe Cumberland is a perfect fit for us – and now for our collective partners and customers. And I can’t wait to see what comes out of our combined “better together” efforts. I’m certain it will lead to exciting new solutions, offerings, and services for the industry.

From here Tegria will continue to grow in support of our mission – we’ll listen to our customers, we’ll work with our partners, and we’ll build the best work environment possible. We’ll continue to innovate and bring new ideas to the industry. We’ll think about what the future might hold while keeping our feet firmly planted in solving problems today. Most importantly, though – we’ll do it together.

Capabilities mentioned here are now carried forward with Tegria.
